I had written the first song on this EP a while before I'd even thought to do an entire record around it. As I always love writing based on a certain theme rather than "write about anything," letting the song create a whole collection was the natural next step.

The Ballad of the Pirate Captain was obviously written from the perspective of Captain Hook. I wondered if he might have tired of never growing old, sailing the seas, and endlessly chasing a band of children. At some point, didn't he want to hang up his Jolly Roger and walk his basset hound around the block, waving at the neighbors? Perhaps no, but this was written for those moments in which he might have thought about settling down.

Follow You Everywhere was inspired by the crocodile who won't stop following Captain Hook once he'd tasted his hand. Clearly, the crocodile who sings this song, however, is a wee bit flirtier and has more enjoyable activities in mind once ...
